Post by ScrappyDistractions »

Congratulations to AZTAM!  Please send a pm or email (jessica@acherryontop.com) along with the name of the prize (tools bundle provded by American Crafts) and your shipping info.

And thank you to everyone that joined in cooking up some amazing creations.  I look forward to seeing more of your create work in the gallery and our monthly challenges

---------------------------
Due by May 10 11:59pm EST

Every good recipe is a melody of ingredients, style, and tools.  Cook me up a great layout or card with a medley of ingredients based on the following list.  Choose at least one item from each category.  Tell me which you are choosing from each when you post your project.

CUISINE defines the overall theme and feeling you want to convey.  Choose your color palette based on one of these cuisines.  White, black, and tan/kraft are always fine to supplement.
  1. Mexican - vibrant bright colors such as red (salsa), green (guacamole), yellow (maize), Carribean blue
  2. English - subdued, subtle, monochromatic; brown, beige, tan, cream (bangers and mash, steak and ale pie), grey, woodgrain, stone
  3. American - red, white, blue (cherry pie and blueberries)
  4. French - subtle but beautiful flavors translates to pastels (macarons)
  5. Indian - spicy and lively; think orange (tikka masala), reds (chiles), yellows (curry; mango), gold
PROTEINS form the key ingredient of every dish - make sure your choice(s) is obvious and not just small accents.
  1. Florals
  2. Stripes
  3. Polka dots
  4. Watercolor, paint, texture paste, or similar artistic look
  5. Theme paper
SPICES  add flavor and character
  1. Enamel dots
  2. Sequins
  3. Glitter or glitter paste/glue such as Stickles, Nuovo, etc.
  4. Distressed edges - torn, sanded, scrapped, burned; must be more than just inking the edges
  5. Brads
  6. Paper clips
SAUCE adds a finishing touch
  1. Inked edges
  2. Spray mist
  3. Velum
  4. Tissue paper
  5. Lace or doily
  6. Ribbon, twine, or floss
TOOLS define how you will prepare the dish
  1. Paper Crimper
  2. Eyelet setter
  3. Paper punch - border or regular punch
  4. Die cut machine (electronic or manual - e.g., Big Shot, Cricut, Silhouette, Sizzix, etc.)
  5. Embossing folder
  6. Stencil
  7. Paint brush

Rules:
  1. Challenge is open to layouts and cards; both tradiitonal and digital are OK if you can work through how to incorporate the tools piece in your digital piece
  2. All projects must be new
  3. No combining allowed except for the 25 Items challenge
  4. All projects must be posted in the gallery and here no later than 11:59 EST May 10 (Monday).
  5. PRIZE:  awesome tools bundle provded by American Crafts  (I LOVE that desktop dustbin!  And the tools are so handy for so many things - the spatula is my go-to tool for the million times I change my mind about where something goes after I have glued it down)

Image

Here is my example and what I chose:

Cuisine = Mexican hence the bright bold colors
Proteins = florals in the Paige Evans paper plus stripes and polka dots in three other papers
Spices = brads and paper clips
Sauce = inked edges and velum under the title and eyelets
Tools = eyelet setter and border punch

My recipe for an All American Girl Summer...I chose American cuisine with the red, white, and blue color palette; theme paper for the protein with the stars/stripes/firework patterned cardstock;  I added enamel dots for some spice with some jewels as well; I inked all edges with Tim Holtz vintage photo distress ink for some sauce, and I used stencils for the tools to trace and cut my shapes.

Very cool!  Love seeing the different format - an art journal/notebook.  I;ve been thinking about trying that out as I have several unused journals from when I was heavy into art journaling
